5 tips to help you remember your Ferro-grad C®

Forgetfulness is key reason that people do not take their iron medication, according to a survey of pregnant women and new mums being treated at an Australian hospital.1 Read on for practical tips to help you remember to take Ferro-grad C® for medically diagnosed iron deficiency.

Why you need iron

Iron is crucial for good health and helps ensure your brain, muscles and other parts of your body have enough oxygen to function. Iron helps keep us on the move, enables us to think clearly and helps our immune system protect us from disease.2

Treating iron deficiency with Ferro-grad C®

Once medically diagnosed with iron deficiency, you should take Ferro-grad C® once a day for 3 to 6 months, or as directed by your doctor.3 Even if you start to feel better after a few weeks, continue taking your iron tablet until your doctor confirms it is ok to stop.  Stopping too soon could cause your iron deficiency to recur.4

Ask for help

Australian researchers have found that one of the main reasons women stop oral iron supplementation against the advice of their doctor is forgetfulness. Another is side effects. Your doctor can help. The researchers found that 90% of women who told their health professional they had stopped taking their iron supplement were given advice that helped them overcome the reason for their cessation.4

Five tips to help you remember

  1. Set a routine: Take your Ferro-grad C® at the same time every day. For example, when you brush your teeth in the morning.
  2. Don’t hide it: Keep your bottle of Ferro-grad C® out where you are likely to see it. However, remember to keep all medicines out of reach of children.
  3. Set a reminder: Use your computer calendar or mobile alarm to set a reminder. Or go old school and put a note on the fridge.
  4. Use a pillbox: If you take more than one medication every day, it may be useful to ask your pharmacist for a seven-day tablet box with a compartment for each day. That way you can load up all your medications every weekend to keep yourself on track.
  5. Keep a reserve supply: Keep a spare bottle of Ferro-grad C® in your handbag or desk drawer at work so that you can catch up if you miss a dose.
